Happy Bit: 86,000 Seconds

This is the story of my daughters' recent fight involving a punch, a grudge, a locked door and my words of wisdom for them. And what does 86,000 seconds have to do with it, anyway? Listen to find out (and learn a killer strategy for the next time your kids fight!)

I really love to read. Yet, as a mom of six, I don’t really have time for it. Lately I’ve discovered audio books, and I’m loving it! My last great book series, sad to admit, was the Twilight series. I know, I know. It’s bad. Anyway… I've teamed up with audible.com to offer you a free audio book.  Just go to vibranthappybook.com and it will send you right there. You’ll also get a free thirty-day trial to get all the books you want.

Now on to our Happy Bit.

This morning Jane came to me and said, “Mom, Lorelai punched me!” So, I solved it and sent Lorelai to her room for a little bit. Then Jane followed me and proceeded to frown and stomp, and look so unhappy. I said, “Jane, do you need a hug? You know, what can I do to help you feel happy?”

“Nothing!” she said. She had been wronged and she was going to wallow in that pity party, right? We’ve all been there, I suppose.

After about five minutes of this I was feeling her effect on my energy, so I said, “You know what Jane? This is a happy room and only happy people are welcome here right now, so you’re going to have to leave. When you have a smile or you feel happier you can come back.” So she left.

Less than five minutes later Lorelai and Jane were both back. The fight was still going, and Lorelai said, “Mom, Jane locked me in my room and I couldn’t get out!”

Then I said to them, “You know what? Are you going to let a twenty second interaction ruin all the other eighty-six thousand seconds in your day?” They paused and stared at me. I could see the wheels turning in their heads. Then Lorelai said, “Okay fine. I know I have about fifty thousand seconds left in my day, so let’s go, Jane,” and they ran off to make breakfast.

The next time you have a conflict, or something sad happens, or someone criticizes you, what are you going to do? Are you going to let a twenty second interaction ruin the other eighty-six thousand seconds in your day? No Way! So, make it a vibrant and happy week. Make it a vibrant happy day.

And remember to get your free audio book at vibranthappybook.com.
