25: Live Life Now (with Heidi Kelly)

After learning she had breast cancer, Heidi Kelly made the choice to grab life by the horns and live NOW. Hear Heidi's story of getting her cancer diagnosis and making the decision to start a “funky” new business and to live life as fully as she can. Heidi is handbag designer, producing one-of-a-kind funky fabric handbags. She is also a breast cancer thriver, helping women see the positive after a breast cancer diagnosis via social media. Heidi lives in Kutztown PA with her husband and dogs.

Nuggets of Wisdom from Heidi:

“Live life now.”

“I know that people like to have something fun and different and colorful against all that black which started making me crazy.”

“We need to do as much as we can while we are young.”

“Keep going, I have pain pretty much 24/7. I have never gotten rid of the pain. Being under 24 hour pain is hard, but you find the little things and the big things that make you happy. You can not stop or you die.”

“Before all of this, I was actually a pretty negative person and a pretty cynical and not necessarily the happiest person in the world. Going through all this and surviving it, may have been the critical turn around, to make it just like a switch in my brain and say, “Okay, you are still alive; you faced lots of crap, and now it is time to do what you want to do forever.”

“Living every day like it is your last. I just do not want to put off what I can do. There are things out there that you can be doing. There are things that can make you happy. There are people that you can meet.”

Some of Heidi‘s Favorite Things:

Personal habit: “Getting enough rest. I give myself time to rest.”

Easy meal: “Chicken of some sort or another. I may add cheese or I may add pesto or tomato sauce. But it is usually chicken.”

Possession: Dishwasher.

Book: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

Best advice received: “Suck it up!” from her uncle.

Heidi's Happiness Formula:

“It would be my animals. It could be more than just the puppies that I have now but animals in general; my husband who has been amazing through everything and so supportive; and doing what I love for a living.”

A Challenge from Heidi:

“Live life now.”
